Boeing shareholders vote to re-elect departing CEO to company's board

Boeing’s departing CEO, Dave Calhoun, was re-elected to stay on the troubled company’s board on Friday, even as the planemaker’s chair said he was gathering feedback from customers and others in its search for a new chief executive.

Boeing is dealing with a sprawling crisis that includes multiple investigations, possible prosecution for past actions and slumping production of its strongest-selling jet.

Shareholders voted at Boeing’s annual general meeting (AGM) for Calhoun to remain on the board in a preliminary tally.

The proxy adviser Glass Lewis had recommended shareholders vote against the re-election of Calhoun and two other directors to Boeing’s board, citing dissatisfaction over efforts to transform the planemaker’s safety culture.

Charleston Police release investigation report of Boeing whistleblower death

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Department on Friday released their findings in the death of a Boeing whistleblower.

John Barnett, 62, was found dead inside his truck with a gunshot wound to his head outside of the Holiday Inn located at 301 Savannah Highway. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Barnett, who worked for Boeing for 32 years, filed a whistleblower complaint alleging safety concerns. The United States Department of Labor was working through the discovery phase of its investigation and is set to begin hearings on that complaint this June.

Police said they found no evidence of forced entry or a struggle inside the vehicle. The orange 2015 Dodge Ram truck’s key fob was found in Barnett’s pocket.

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office determined Barnett’s death to be a suicide.

Dozens of Egyptian pyramids, some in Giza, sat along a branch of the Nile, study says

By Evan Bush

The pyramids in and around Giza have presented a fascinating puzzle for millennia.

How did ancient Egyptians move limestone blocks, some weighing more than a ton, without using wheels? Why were these burial structures seemingly built in the remote and inhospitable desert?

New research — published Thursday in the journal Communications Earth & Environment — offers a possible answer, providing new evidence that an extinct branch of the Nile River once weaved through the landscape in a much wetter climate. Dozens of Egyptian pyramids across a 40-mile-long range rimmed the waterway, the study says, including the best-known complex in Giza.

The waterway allowed workers to transport stone and other materials to build the monuments, according to the study. Raised causeways stretched out horizontally, connecting the pyramids to river ports along the Nile’s bank.

Churchgoers thwarted a teenager armed with a rifle from entering a Louisiana church full of children Saturday in a service that was being livestreamed, authorities said.

Police were called to St. Mary Magdalen Church in Abbeville, 20 miles south of Lafayette, at 10:35 a.m. when the 16-year-old suspect tried to get in via the back door.

Around 60 children were inside the Catholic church at the time waiting to take their first Holy Communion, the church said.

The church said in a statement that parishioners confronted the suspect and took him outside before calling the police.

Michael Cohen implicates Trump in hush money case: 'Make sure it doesn't get released'

Source: NBC

Donald Trump's fixer-turned-foe, Michael Cohen, directly implicated the former president in a hush money scheme Monday, telling jurors that his celebrity client approved hefty payouts to stifle stories about sex that he feared could be harmful to his 2016 White House campaign.

“You handle it,” Cohen quoted Trump as telling him after learning that a doorman had come forward with a claim that Trump had fathered a child out-of-wedlock. The Trump Tower doorman was paid $30,000 to keep the story “off the market” even though the claim was ultimately deemed unfounded.

A similar episode occurred after Cohen alerted Trump that a Playboy model alleged that she and Trump had an extramarital affair. Again, the order was clear: “Make sure it doesn't get released,” Cohen said Trump told him. The woman was paid $150,000 to stay quiet.

Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer and personal fixer is by far the Manhattan district attorney’s most important witness in the case, and his much-awaited appearance on the stand signaled that the first criminal trial of a former American president is entering its final stretch. Prosecutors say they may wrap up their presentation of evidence by the end of the week.

Russia blamed for GPS interference affecting flights in Europe

Source: BBC

Russia is causing disruption to satellite navigation systems affecting thousands of civilian flights, experts say.

The Baltic Sea, the Black Sea and the eastern Mediterranean - the regions where Russia's military has been most active - have seen an increase in disruption to the Global Positioning System (GPS).

This has left aircraft unable to receive GPS signals.

In March, a RAF plane carrying Defence Secretary Grant Shapps had its GPS signal jammed while flying close to Russian territory.
